These Plant Seeds Sold For $2077 by Brad Bradley
If you love plants (and you should at theseprices) then the seed business could be for you. In November 2007, 100 anthurium jenmanii seeds sold for over $2,000 on eBay and obviously the bidders weren't shy about what they were willing to pay for them. An actual plant grown from this particular type of seed sold for $3,150.
There are many other similar items listed up for auction online and you can take advantage of the rabid buyers of plants and seeds that seems to be everywhere online and I should know since my wife is included in this category. The key to any successful business is having a crowd of buyers that will buy most anything related to their interest and plant lovers and gardeners certainly fall into this category. To make extra money in this area you really should have a love of plants because depending on what you are growing it really can be a lot of hard work. I know this from past experience and my back just couldn't hold up so I leave any plant growing to my wife. You don't have to specialize in rare seeds to make a good amount of extra money every month from auctions. There are more than a few people that earn quite a bit extra money selling better known seed varieties and there is no reason you can't do the same.
The obvious choice for your seed supply would be your own plants to maximize profits, but sometimes this is not practical due to the amount of space you have to work with. If your neighbor has plants you can ask them if it is okay for you to gather seeds from their plants when the right time of year comes along and you can also keep an eye out around town after the blooming season is over for plants that are ready to drop their seeds.
If either of these solutions does not work then you can always go through a seed wholesaler that you can get your supplies from and then you can break them up into individual packs to sell at auction. Do your research prior to making any purchase of seeds from a wholesaler to make sure that they are popular sellers. If you have an idea for a type of seed or plant that you do not see being listed online, purchase a couple of plants or packs of seeds from your local store remove and repackage it and do a test sale to see if it sells quickly. If it does, buy 10 more and do the same thing again. If it doesn't sell, then you'll know not to waste your money buying inventory from a wholesaler.
